The camera won't open, or the screen stays black

When you add a photo you can either choose one you already have or take a new one. If taking a new one opens a black screen, the problem is nearly always that your browser has not been given permission to use the camera — not that Kithage is broken.

Kithage never uses your camera directly. It asks your browser for a photo, and your browser asks your phone. Any of those three can say no.

Ten-second test

Open kithage.com in a different browser on the same phone and try again.

  • It works in the other browser — the first browser is missing camera permission. Fix it below, or just use the one that works.
  • It's black in both — the permission is switched off for the phone, or the camera is being held by another app. Close every other app and try once more.

iPhone and iPad

Each browser is a separate app with its own permission, even though they all use the same engine underneath. Granting Safari access does not grant it to Firefox or Chrome.

  1. Settings → Firefox (or Chrome, or whichever browser) → Camera — turn it on.
  2. For Safari specifically: Settings → Apps → Safari → Camera — set it to Ask, not Deny. Safari remembers a refusal silently, and a remembered refusal looks exactly like a broken page.
  3. Force-close the browser and reopen it. The permission is read when the app starts.

Android

  1. Settings → Apps → [your browser] → Permissions → CameraAllow.
  2. In Chrome: ⋮ → Settings → Site settings → Camera, and check kithage.com is not blocked.

Still black

  • Another app is holding the camera. Video calls are the usual culprit. Close them and try again.
  • Restart the phone. Genuinely fixes a stuck camera more often than it should.
  • Use the workaround. Take the picture in your normal camera app, then choose Photo Library in Kithage instead. The result is identical — photos are resized and stripped of location data either way.

If none of that works, get in touch and say which phone and browser you're using. That page collects the details automatically.
