How do I find groups to join?
You can't browse for groups, and that is deliberate.
There is no directory to search. You get into a group one of two ways:
- Someone invites you with a single-use link.
- You create your own and invite people yourself.
Why it works this way
Every previous attempt at shared inventory - SnapGoods, NeighborGoods, StreetLend, Peerby - was built on strangers, and every one of them died of the same problem: lending your drill to someone you have never met is a leap most people never take, so nothing ever gets lent, so nobody comes back.
Kithage competes with the group text "does anybody have a pressure washer" - not with a shop. The people are already there. The bit that is missing is the list.
The closed group is the product, not a limitation. A browsable directory would make it worse at the only job it has.
Starting one
Create a group, then invite four or five people who already trust each other - family across a few houses is the easiest place to begin. It becomes useful at roughly forty items, which sounds like a lot until you count the things in one garage.
