What happens to the photos you upload

Location data is removed

Phone photos usually carry the GPS coordinates of where they were taken — which, for a photo of your own drill, is your home address.

Kithage strips that before storing anything. The original file is discarded and never saved; what's kept is a resized copy with the location data gone. Rotation is applied first, so a photo taken sideways still appears the right way up.

They're resized

Two versions are stored: one about 1600 pixels for the item page, and a small one for lists. A 4 MB phone photo becomes roughly 200 KB, which is why pages stay quick on a phone signal in a garage.

Who can see them

Only people in the groups where the item is listed. Photos are served through links that expire, so a copied link stops working — someone outside your group cannot see your things, and cannot discover that your group exists.

If you unlist an item everywhere, the photos stay with it, so re-listing it later brings them back.
